Gary Doernhoefer is vice president and general counsel for Orbitz, the travel Web site founded by United, Delta, American, Northwest and Continental Airlines. In this role, Doernhoefer, who has a vast knowledge of the airline industry and more than 16 years of legal experience, is responsible for overseeing all corporate governance and ensuring compliance with international, federal and state regulations.
Before joining Orbitz, Doernhoefer served as American Airlines' senior counsel for government affairs, where he represented the company before Congress on a range of issues, including antitrust, the environment and airline operations. With American Airlines, Doernhoefer also was involved in strategic planning for lobbying efforts, as well as campaigns to address claims of antitrust violations. Additionally, he led negotiations involving regulatory agencies and governments in Washington, D.C.; London; Brussels; and Ottawa in planning an international code-sharing alliance.
Prior to Doernhoefer's post with American Airlines, he was a general law practice litigator for Mayer, Brown and Platt, and Davis, Graham and Stubbs. In this capacity, he focused primarily on business torts, partnerships, employment, fraud and arbitration cases.
Doernhoefer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and Russian from Grinnell College in Iowa and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Chicago in Illinois. Doernhoefer is a licensed pilot. |
