Consumer Reports WebWatch Launches New Column By Angela Gunn On Web Ethics For Publishers And Consumers

Former Yahoo! Internet Life Co-Founder & Editor To Write Column Twice a Month for www.consumerwebwatch.org

YONKERS, N.Y. — Consumer Reports WebWatch, a non-profit research project with a mission to improve the credibility of online content, today announced the debut of a new column by Angela Gunn, former ethics editor for Yahoo! Internet Life, to run twice a month on the Consumer Reports WebWatch (http://www.consumerwebwatch.org) site.

Gunn joins the project as Consumer Reports WebWatch begins publishing its own original news content focusing on the credibility of online information.

"We're delighted to showcase Angela's perspectives, experience and unique views on Web credibility for Consumer Reports WebWatch readers," said Beau Brendler, the project's director. "Angela is a seasoned editor who has been a voice for Internet ethics for some time. Angela will be instrumental in helping us achieve our larger mission to investigate, inform and improve the credibility of information on the Web. Her column will keep Web publishers and consumers informed on news topics that relate to Web credibility and how it affects consumers."

Consumer Reports WebWatch is a project of Consumers Union, the non-profit publisher of Consumer Reports magazine and ConsumerReports.org, the Web's most successful magazine-based paid-subscription site, and is supported by grants from The Pew Charitable Trusts, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and the Open Society Institute.

Beginning Tuesday, September 17, Gunn's column will run twice a month on www.consumerwebwatch.org. Currently, Gunn is the technology editor for Time Out New York. A well-known journalist and co-founder of Yahoo! Internet Life and WebWeek, Gunn has written hundreds of articles for PC Magazine, MSNBC, The Industry Standard, Factsheet Five, Seattle Weekly, LA Weekly, New Directions For Women, Home Office Computing, and other publications. Her paper on "The Internet and Multiple Identities," delivered at the Brookings Institute in 1994, was one of the first public discussions of the pros and cons of online anonymity.
