Richard Wald is the Fred Friendly Professor of Media and Society at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a consultant to ABC News.
Previously, as ABC's senior vice president for editorial quality, Wald was responsible for the journalistic integrity and editorial standards of ABC News. Before joining the network, he was assistant to the chairman of the board of the Times-Mirror Co. in Los Angeles, president of NBC News from 1973 to 1977, and executive vice president of Whitney Communications.
Wald graduated in 1952 from Columbia College, where he also earned a master's degree in 1953. He was the university's first Harry J. Carman fellow, and also had been a Kellett fellow at Clare College in Cambridge, England, where he received a second Bachelor's degree in 1955.
Wald serves as the chairman of the board of the Columbia Spectator, the university's daily newspaper, and as a board member of The Correspondents Fund. He is a board member of the Federation of American Scientists and a member of the advisory board to the Knight Mid-Career Fellowship at Stanford University. |
