|
Robertson Barrett was named the general manager of the Los Angeles Times' Web site, LATimes.com, in January 2005 and is no longer a contributor to Consumer Reports WebWatch, though his well-received investigative work for the project will remain on the site. Barrett's column addresses readers' concerns about the safety and potential pitfalls of using the Internet to shop, bank and find information; provides answers about credibility on the Web; and educates consumers about potentially dishonest online practices. As an expert in online scams, Barrett has covered such issues as "phishing," spyware, adware and anonymity tools.
Barrett has more than 10 years experience as an online journalist, editor and business executive. In 1994, he co-founded TIME Daily, the news magazine’s online news service, which won a John C. Dvorak Award for Excellence in Telecommunications that same year. He also co-founded TIME.com, which won Editor & Publisher’s Best Online News Service by a Non-Newspaper Company in 1996. He was the co-founder and managing producer of ABCNEWS.com, and served as vice president and general manager of The FeedRoom, a nationwide broadband news network, and as vice president of Channel One Interactive, the educational television network's new media division.
Barrett holds a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. |
