Associate Professor of Professional Practice
Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism
Sree Sreenivasan is a full-time associate professor of professional practice at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where he specializes in new media.

He also travels to various newsrooms and educational institutions around the United States and abroad to teach workshops on "Smarter Surfing: Better Use of Your Web Time" and new media storytelling. In May 2000, he became founding administrator of the Online Journalism Awards, a new set of international prizes run by Columbia and the Online News Association, a group he helped co-found in 1998.

Sreenivasan appears weekly on New York's local ABC-TV affiliate WABC-7's "Eyewitness News This Morning" to discuss technology trends and gadgets. He also occasionally guest hosts segments of "Asian America" on PBS, the only nationally syndicated English-language program about Asian American affairs. He is a frequent commentator and speaker on various issues, including trends affecting journalism, technology & convergence, the Internet, writing for the Web, South Asians and minorities.

His work has appeared in Time Digital, The New York Times, Business Week, India Today, Rolling Stone and the Fiji Sun, in which he got his first byline at 15. Sreenivasan also has been a freelance producer for the "Nightly Business Report" on PBS; a reporter and editor in India; and a managing editor of Inequality.org, a site covering the divide in income, wealth and health in the United States.

In addition, Sreenivasan is co-founder (and former president) of SAJA, the South Asian Journalists Association, and faculty advisor to Columbia's chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, for which he won the group's National Faculty Advisor of the Year Award for 1998.

Sreenivasan has a master's in journalism from Columbia and a bachelor's degree in history from St. Stephen's College, in Delhi.
