William J. McGee

Bill McGee is a consultant on online travel to Consumer Reports WebWatch, and is a travel columnist for USAToday.com and a contributing editor to Consumer Reports Money Adviser. From January 2000 to December 2002 he served as the Editor of Consumer Reports Travel Letter. McGee is one of the nation’s foremost experts in online travel and tourism, offering straightforward insights, advice and counsel for both business and consumer audiences.
For nearly 15 years, McGee has written about the travel and aviation industries for a variety of publications, including Condé Nast Traveler, New York Magazine, The Boston Herald, Zagat, The Journal of Commerce, Business Traveler International, Leisure Travel News, Air Transport World, Travel Agent, Business Travel News, New Asia Review, and Vagabond.
Prior to becoming a full-time journalist, McGee spent seven years working in airline flight operations management. He is an FAA-licensed aircraft dispatcher and a flight operations officer in the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary/Civil Air Patrol.
McGee has discussed travel, travel technology, and aviation with dozens of broadcast and print media, including CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, NPR, NBC’s Dateline, ABC’s 20/20, PBS’s That Money Show, CBS’s Early Show, Fox’s Good Day New York, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, BusinessWeek, AARP: The Magazine, Family Circle, New York, Glamour, Men’s Fitness, Money, and many others. From 2000 to 2002, he co-hosted a weekly travel advocate program for KOMO-AM in Seattle.
A member of the New York Travel Writers Association, the Society of Aerospace Communicators, and the Editorial Freelancers Association, Bill McGee received the Eugene Dubois Aviation Journalism Award in 1999. He holds an master’s of fine arts degree in creative writing from Columbia University’s School of the Arts. |
