The Pledge

What is the pledge?

Consumer Reports WebWatch has developed five general guidelines to improve the trustworthiness of all Web sites. These guidelines call for easy-to-find disclosures of site identity, ownership, policies on advertising, sponsorships, customer service and privacy; and making a commitment to quickly and prominently correct wrong information.

We invite your organization or company to adopt the Consumer Reports WebWatch guidelines to improve Web site credibility. Here's how:

  • Refer to our guidelines to review your organization's site to ensure all appropriate disclosures are made, and make any necessary changes. Disclosures should be in plain language, and should be easy to find from a frequently visited page, such as the "Home Page" or "About Us" page, with links as appropriate.
  • Fill out the pledge form for a quick site inspection, to ensure our staff agrees that your site has met the guidelines.
  • Sites that comply with the guidelines will be listed on the Consumer Reports WebWatch site.
